The City Attorney is appointed by the mayor. The City Attorney is an attorney and counselor at law admitted to practice in the state of New York.
The City Attorney is the official legal advisor of all offices, departments, boards, bureaus, commissions and agencies of the city. The City Attorney appears for and represents the city in all actions, suits or proceedings, administrative hearings and proceedings unless otherwise provided by the Common Council.
The City Attorney prepares or reviews all local law, ordinances, resolutions, contracts, deeds and other instruments for the city unless otherwise provided.
